Story Board Stills

Below is an example of the stills taken of my post it note work.

Story Board

here is my story board for my music video, using post it notes i created a paper version of my music video using ideas i have. this allows me to refer back to it during filming so as not to loose any ideas or waste time. it also means if i change my mind on a scene i cant take the post it note off the paper and do not have to completely re-do my plan.

Music Proposal

The song I have decided to do for my music video is 'Knock Knock' by Lenka. I originally put my three choices down to be 'Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful' by Paloma Faith, 'Fidelity' by Regina Spektor and 'Hollywood' by Madonna, however all three songs had videos and were under ten years old; after some research on other artists with the same tone as my originally choices I decided to do Lenka 'Knock Knock'

Performers – My performers will be a girl and a boy; as the artist for this song is a girl, the majority of the video will involve her, but to follow the narrative story I plan to use.

Costumes-I don't have any specific ideas for costumes but as the song is quirky I would like a more summery theme so the boy in light skinny jeans and a white or gray tee shirt with the girl in a summery dress and ballet pumps, or possibly heels.

Location- I have numerous ideas for locations. These include joyden wood woods a train, a rowing boat, a winding lane (crockenhill or eynsford) during a bike ride, Eynsford river and Faringham area as I like the cottage feel to the area, and the lecture theatre at my school. I want the filming to be done during the day as it will be light and breezy.

Narrative Ideas-The lyrics to the story are not particularly narrative in my opinion, they tell of a girls need to see her boyfriend when life goes wrong and how he makes everything better. I would like to portray this in my video, using scenes of the girl on her own and with the boyfriend. In shots on her own she will be lip syncing, however I'm unsure, and need further consideration as to whether the girl will sing when together with her boyfriend.

Camera Angles – As I am planning to use a variety of locations, I will need to use a variety of camera angles ranging from extreme long shots to extreme close ups, at one point in my song the lyrics are ‘Knock Knock’ I plan to use a extreme close up of my artists lips while she lip syncs.

Editing Styles – I plan to use the cloning technique and have lots of different freeze shots of my artist. I would also like to use the moving photo technique with a post card which would them move into another part of the video. I am considering using pieces of paper with words on them, like Ugly by Sugar Babes; as well as using slow motion at one point.

Style and Influences – I would like my style to be quirky and summery to mix well with the song. My influences for my video, are videos by Regina Spektor, Paloma Faith, Marina and the Diamonds and I Blame Coco. The style for my girl i would like to go for is Alexa Chung

Bad Touch Video Editing Evaluation

Filming
We found that filming was difficult, this was most likely due to the lack of experience in planning a music video we have. We didn't rehearse before hand, and our lack of camera knowledge meant we struggled to work through quickly and we didn't make shot lists which are a very important part of the planning process. We found we struggled mostly with professionalism on the set. Despite being able to work well as a team and offer each other constructive advice and criticism, we laughed through out and many takes we're incomplete due to laughing.

On the plus side, we made a short story board, despite being largely incomplete it did benefit us; we also used make shift props and costume which helped us get into character more easily.

Something we noticed after filming was that our camera was not always steady. This is top of the criteria of a good film, therefore it is essential that we use steady clips, etc.

Editing

During our editing i discovered the importance of perfecting the lipsyncing; in some parts of our re-make the lip syncing was tight and looked convincing, in others it looked slightly off.

During this process I learnt skills which will benefit my future work; how to import, cut, move and resize scenes. Also how to change the speed duration, reverse shots, flip shots and crop them.

Emotionally the process was a struggle, it took a lot of time and paintence, and trouble with the computers meant not continulously saving work could mean loosing it as the application would freeze or quit without warning. It was a frustrating process that i felt required breaks inbetween. However i am greatful for doing it as it has given me an insight to my video and how the process will go for that.
